Seward Ranger District 2/7/2019

This week we’ve experienced many trail condition improvements on Seward Ranger District with the addition of minimal amounts of snow on Sunday/Monday.  2-5” of new snow has improved skiing at lower elevations. Seward Ranger District-12/13/2018

It’s beginning to look a lot like winter but yet not enough snow cover to think about opening any areas for Winter Motorized use. Seward Ranger District thus far has received 2-6” of snow this past week at lower elevation parking lots and 1-3’ of snow above 1,500’ elevation across the District. The snow fell cold and has yet to bond with the ice layer in many locations, let’s just say ice cleats should be a staple item in your pack.

Seward Ranger District-November 29, 2018

And so the story goes that there won’t be a Winter Motorized opening this Saturday on Seward Ranger District. December 1 will quietly come and go as we don’t have any snow at our winter used trailheads, let alone at 2,500’ elevation. The attached photo is near Carter Lake today, elevation 1,500’.
