02/13/2020-Seward Ranger District

Good Morning on yet another beautiful day on Seward Ranger District! The photo is of the Full Snow Moon this past weekend making a moon bow if that’s such a thing.

One interesting thing about the ice on Kenai Lake in front of my office which is between Trail River and Ptarmigan Creek; 9 days ago ice thickness was 3” top layer, ½” water, then bottom layer of 3.5”. Yesterday still had the ½” of water but the top layer was 2.5” and the bottom layer was 3”. One inch of ice loss most likely being affected by Trail River which is 1,000’ to the north.

Winter is full on across Seward Ranger District. You know we’re having a good time when snow at lower elevations allow for grooming of many areas. See the attached fliers from the Seward and Cooper Landing Nordic Ski Clubs.

Have a Great Weekend being safe and having fun outside!
